With the US-China trade truce set to expire within days, Washington faces mounting pressure to secure a new deal. Former “phase one” commitments largely went unenforced, and Beijing now wields significant leverage through rare earth exports, technology access, and industrial overcapacity. President Trump is reportedly pushing for a quick agreement, even softening chip export controls, while China maintains strong positions in key supply chains.
