STORYLINE:
Several demonstrators were arrested Monday in New York as protesters took to the streets demanding an end to what they describe as the starvation of civilians in Gaza.
The protest drew a large crowd who spoke, chanted, and sang. Later, demonstrators blocked parts of the street near Trump International Hotel and Tower before NYPD officers began issuing warnings and making arrests.
Morriah Kaplan, Interim Executive Director of IfNotNow, told the crowd, "The only true safety is shared safety. The only durable freedom is freedom for all. And we must have the courage, the integrity, and the love necessary to chart a new direction for our people.”
Officers detained protesters and loaded them into NYPD vans. Despite the arrests, many continued chanting.
