"I’m currently in a Jordanian military aircraft that has just dropped three-point-five tons of aid over the Gaza Strip."
2. Aid being dropped from the plane over the Gaza Strip
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Malak Harb, The Associated Press:
"It’s one of many airdrops that have taken place in recent weeks. Israel announced measures allowing some aid in, after reports of dozens of hunger-related deaths sparked international pressure. The situation in Gaza for the nearly two million living there is desperate. From up here you can see the widespread destruction over the strip after nearly two years of Israel at war with the Hamas militant group. These neighborhoods in North Gaza were once bustling markets and busy neighborhoods, they’re now unrecognizable; reduced to mounds of rubble. From up here, you can see rubble stretching as far as the eyes can see."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Malak Harb, The Associated Press:
"And once the containers slowly parachute down, large crowds of Palestinians will be chasing them trying to get whatever they can back to their families. It gets chaotic and sometimes dangerous. And seeing the destruction from up here, shows just how desperate the situation is."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Malak Harb, The Associated Press:
"Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced, and have left these areas to crowded tent settlements along the Mediterranean Sea. UN agencies and other international aid groups are saying these aid drops are nowhere near enough to alleviate the humanitarian crisis, and are just a drop in the ocean of what is available and what is needed. They have said that the air drops are expensive, with each plane only containing a fraction of what they can bring in through the borders in truck convoys at a fraction of the cost. The airdrops have also been dangerous at times, with containers falling on crowds, homes, and in the sea, sometimes injuring or killing people. Israel’s blockade and military offensive have made it nearly impossible to safely deliver aid, contributing to the territory’s slide toward famine nearly 22 months into the war. Talks for a ceasefire that includes Hamas releasing the remaining Israeli hostages in a swap for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel are still stalling."

STORYLINE:
Airdrops of aid continued Thursday over the Gaza Strip as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to announce further military action — and possibly plans for Israel to fully reoccupy Gaza.

An Israeli official said the Security Cabinet is expected to hold a lengthy debate and approve an expanded military plan to conquer all or parts of Gaza not yet under Israeli control. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity pending a formal decision, said that whatever is approved would be implemented gradually to increase pressure on Hamas.

But expanding military operations would further isolate Israel internationally, after several of its closest Western allies have called on it to end the war and facilitate more humanitarian aid.
