STORYLINE:
Car enthusiasts gathered at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez racetrack in Mexico City on Sunday to view more than 300 cars of different years and models.
The car owners presented and drove the vehicles, some classic, on the racetrack during the Historic Grand Prix.
“It’s a place of champions, and to think that not just anyone races at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez,” said Martín Tinoco, a businessman and classic car owner. “Racing means belonging to a group of friends from a collector car club and continually participating in world motorsports."
On Sunday, Tinoco raced a classic car that belonged to his late father.
He said the first time he crossed the finish line at this racetrack years ago he couldn’t hold back tears.
Car fans were able to enjoy and admire the beauty and power of classic cars.
For attendees, being able to admire cars was also exciting, as Jaime Velasco, coordinator of mechanical workshops, who has had a passion for cars since he was young.
"The combination of old and new cars is what gives this event its special touch because, if you look around, you can see cars from 100 years ago and you can see ‘hypercars’ from this year."
