STORYLINE:
Seven Palestinians from the same family were killed by an Israeli strike overnight into Monday, according to a hospital where the bodies were brought.

Relatives mourned over the dead outside the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis after the attack on a residential building in the western part of the city.

Those killed in the strike, included a grandfather, his four children, a grandchild and another relative, according to the health facility’s casualty list.

Israel’s aerial bombardment of Gaza has continued as it prepares to expand its offensive into more of the few areas of the territory not already under dispersal orders.

It comes despite mounting calls from many of its closest allies to end the war, and the plan faces opposition within Israel from families of the remaining 20 or so living hostages held by Hamas and members of the security establishment who say there is little to gain militarily at this point.

Israel’s air and ground offensive in Gaza has already displaced most Palestinians and pushed the territory toward famine.

Gaza’s Health Ministry says more than 61,400 Palestinians have been killed.

The ministry, part of the Hamas-run government and staffed by medical professionals, doesn’t distinguish between fighters or civilians, but says around half of the dead have been women and children.

The UN and independent experts consider it the most reliable source on war casualties.
