Pakistanis in the southern port city of Karachi are preparing to mark the 78th Independence Day later this week.
Shoppers at markets in the city purchased Pakistani flags and clothes for their children.
"We came here to the wholesale market to purchase badges, flags and Independence Day-related clothes for the children," said shopper Furrukh Anam.
The Pakistani government has declared August 14 a national holiday for Independence Day celebrations.
The holiday comes after nuclear rivals India and Pakistan stepped back from brink of war earlier in the year.
Landmarks in Karachi were illuminated in green to kick off the festivities.
Pakistan’s day of independence came on Aug. 14, 1947.
It was the year Britain ended its colonial rule over the Indian subcontinent, which become two independent nations — Hindu-majority, but secularly governed India and the Islamic republic of Pakistan.
