The Trail of Terror Caused by the ‘.22 Caliber Killer’ and ‘Midtown Slasher’ from Buffalo to NYC

For months in the fall of 1980, a man known as the ".22 Caliber Killer" terrorized Black men in Buffalo, New York, where he killed six people. Then, just days before Christmas, he set his sights on New York City where he stabbed and slashed six Black men. In early 1981, Joseph Christopher, an Army soldier, would have his identity as the man known as both ".22 Caliber Killer" and "Midtown Slasher" uncovered when he was busted in Fort Benning, Georgia, after he stabbed a Black cadet.
