“‘Butterfly’ is something that I told the cast about already, but this is a lifelong dream of mine to do a show that brings together an American cast and a Korean cast to tell the story of two cultures. And so it’s very meaningful to me to have actors like the ones that are next to me because I’m a fan of every one of these actors. And I’m so honored that they would join me in this kind of project. We had Korean directors, we had American directors. A Korean crew and shot 100 percent in Korea. And I’m very, very proud of that.”

“So many people showed interest and it was incredibly complex and hectic. But anyway, this was my first time doing red carpet events, premieres, and interviews in New York. I was so fascinated by it all that I felt like I was just sightseeing the whole time.”

“After I passed the first audition, I thought, ‘Wow, this could actually happen,’ so I quickly got a native English-speaking tutor and started taking English lessons. Then I auditioned again, and honestly I wondered if I could actually make it, but I did pass. So from that point on, I worked with that teacher, going over every single word and really drilling the nuances—working incredibly hard on repetitive training to capture that native speaker’s feel."

STORYLINE:
Stars of Amazon Prime Video’s spy thriller "Butterfly" gathered at Seoul’s Starfield COEX Mall on Monday for a red carpet event ahead of its South Korean premiere later this week.
The show, which debuted in the United States on August 13, will launch in South Korea on August 22, bringing together American and Korean cast members in what actor Daniel Dae Kim calls a cross-cultural storytelling milestone.
Kim, who serves as both star and executive producer of the show, described the project as a "lifelong dream" during the fan event.
"This is something I’ve wanted to do for years – a show that brings together an American cast and a Korean cast to tell a story about two cultures," Kim said. "I’m so honored to work with these incredible actors." He added that the series was shot entirely in Korea with Korean and American directors collaborating on the production.
