“We started right here in the bushes behind me, and we photographed Trump meeting Zelenskyy. And then we had to run from here to the press briefing room doors to line up, and there were so many people here, more than I’ve ever seen, so it was a lot of pushing and shoving to get through. Immediately once we got there, we ran to the Oval Office, and there’s an order when the pool goes in, it’s TV first, and then stills, and as AP, I am the first of the stills to go in.”

“I got a spot, sort of in the center, and on the front, in front of TV. And then after that, it was just, you know, shooting and trying to get all the moments: Trump and Zelensky shaking hands, them talking to each other. A big focus of yesterday’s meeting was comparing it to the meeting several months before where obviously was very contentious between Trump and Zelenskyy. Yesterday the meeting was very cordial, so I tried to show that in my photos. Another point of comparison that was a focus was how the Oval Office had changed since the last meeting. Obviously the last meeting was at the very start of President Trump’s administration so the office wasn’t completely done over for him, and this time there was a lot of gold behind the two leaders and that was something I was also trying to capture in my photos.”
STORYLINE:
Associated Press photographer Julia Demaree Nikhinson covered US President Donald Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval office on Monday.
The meeting brought droves of press to the White House.
Nikhinson said she’s never seen so many people on the premises before.
“It was a lot of pushing and shoving to get through. Immediately once we got there, we ran to the Oval Office, and there’s an order when the pool goes in, it’s TV first, and then stills, and as AP, I am the first of the stills to go in,” Nikhinson said.
