“The U.S. tariffs have of course impacted industries around the globe. Some regions are even more impacted than others. But Hiwin is strategically positioned in the world. We have a U.S. subsidiary in Chicago, that was created thirty years ago. So, our strategy (to counter tariffs) is to have our U.S. colleagues explore new clients to reduce the impacts on tariffs.”

“Here, we produce made in Taiwan products from our factories. We started to use automation on our production lines. Besides that, we develop better and newer products for our clients around the world and this can also reduce the U.S. tariff’s impacts.”

“Regarding the recent U.S. tariffs, Chelic Group has factories in Taiwan, China and Thailand. We can adapt to our clients’ requests. They might ask to export from a country without geopolitical concerns, then we can export from a Southeast Asia factory. If they want lower costs our factories in China can also export. As for our Taiwan factories, they are more focused on semiconductor and high-end products, and we can also adapt to customer’s needs.”

“This was developed out of the needs from the European side we (in Europe have labour shortages, and pressure from the market to keep costs down. This can be done only with robotics. Robotics today is a little bit different to program. That’s why we have a special development done on our robot solutions here where you can do programming only with voice control. So, it means you tell the robot what it needs to do and he is writing the program by itself.”

Humanoid robots and robotic arms are amongst the products on display at Automation Taipei 2025.
Taiwan’s latest robot technology is on show today at an expo showing off just what humanoids and voice responsive machines can do.
The imposition of US tariffs on Taiwan’s exports is still focusing the minds of businesses, but they say they’re well prepared.
