STORYLINE:
With temperatures soaring to around 45°C (113°F) in Baghdad and other cities in central and southern Iraq, many people are taking to summer resorts in the northern Kurdish region to enjoy the cooler weather and the waterfalls in the mountains.
At the Bekhal waterfalls in Irbil province, visitors gathered by the streams, while others climbed the rocks near the falls to take pictures.
"The mountain views here are incredible, and I really loved the houses in the mountains," said Chiman Ahmad, an Iraqi visitor living in Qatar.
Iraq regularly experiences extreme heat waves during the summer months, particularly in July and August.
"Temperatures are very high in Baghdad, so we went to the north for a change of scenery," said a visitor of a resort in Dohuk who only went by the name, Ulaa.
The challenge of staying cool is becoming harder each year for Iraqis as they face the effects of climate change, poor infrastructure and a lack of green spaces.
