Reporter: “The challenge of doing Shakespeare, you know, there’s a bit of a challenge in the pentameter and in the language. Was that a barrier you had to overcome in any way?”
“No, you just don’t put Shakespeare on a pedestal. He was a writer, he was also an actor, so he’s sort of one of our tribe. And I think if he was alive today, he wouldn’t be putting his writing on a pedestal either. He would be doing rewrites. If an actor was unhappy with the line, he’d cut it for you. I just have that feeling, because the way he wrote. And that’s the beauty of his work. And they’re timeless because they still deal with issues that we all are still dealing with, and they’ll never go away.”

“Well, normally when I’ve seen this character played, it’s been a very sort of lovable doofus and I wanted to steer away from that and make him a little more unlikable and that’s been really fun for me. I gotta play a very likable person for 11 years on TV so it’s fun for me to show people a different side of me. My Andrew Aguecheek is a bit of a Karen. He’s a bit a problem. He’s been entitled. He’s that guy on your Instagram who’s always on a yacht and you’re not sure how he made his money. Or why he’s running in these circles that he’s running in. And it’s been a lot of fun to put together.”

“It’s why I moved to New York City from New Jersey to do stage acting. You don’t think in terms of film or TV when you’re young, you just wanna do plays, and it reminds me of when I was young, you know, and I’ve never done a play outside, which has its own set of circumstances and rules. We had to call off our show last night, unfortunately, because of the pouring rain. Raccoons have walked on stage with me, but I absolutely love it. It’s like the old days of Shakespeare, they didn’t have electricity, so they did it outside and whatever happens, happens. And when you have an audience of people who have been waiting in line all day long to see you in a play, to see Shakespeare, they are the kindest, warmest, loveliest audience I’ve ever come across.”
