The battle to save China’s rare snub-nosed monkey | BBC News

The Golden snub-nosed monkey was nearly wiped out following widespread deforestation in the remote mountains of central China.

But, the species is now seeing a bounce back thanks to a preservation plan
.
The big push on preservation came in 2005 when the now Professor Yang is the director of the Shennongjia National Park Scientific Research Institute and a small group of others formed a specialist study team.

Although it has been hard to get numbers up, the 500 monkeys figure has now become more than 1,600 and they are hoping that this will pass 2,000 within 10 years.
