"Ukraine needs security guarantees so that all of us, our children and grandchildren, will know clearly that Russia will not attack us. These are security guarantees against the aggressor. They are for Ukraine’s security, for our sovereignty, and for our territorial integrity. Because the aggressor is Russia. When Russia raises the issue of security guarantees, I honestly don’t know who they think threatens them. They attacked us. They are on our soil. I don’t quite understand what guarantees the aggressor needs."

"I think so. A week ago, or two weeks ago, Russia was in the same place it is now. It doesn’t want to end the war. It wants to use ultimatums to block any possibility of ending the war. They do everything to ensure President Trump does not impose sanctions on them. They act so that the United States does not apply the full pressure it can. This is what Russia is doing."

"The Russians are trying to do anything to avoid the meeting. The issue is not the meeting itself, the issue is that they do not want to end the war. A meeting is one of the components of how to end a war. It is not everything, but it is one component. And since they do not want to end the war, they will keep looking for ways to avoid it. It is necessary that this space for avoidance be reduced. U.S. and European unity will reduce this space, the space for war."

STORYLINE:
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the United States has shown readiness to take part in providing security guarantees for Ukraine, calling it a first step toward protecting Ukraine from future Russian aggression.
Speaking at a joint news conference with visiting NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said that talks are underway “every day” at military, diplomatic and advisory levels to shape concrete security guarantees.
He said the ultimate goal is to secure protections similar to Article 5 of the NATO treaty.
“Ukraine needs security guarantees so that our children and grandchildren know clearly that Russia will not attack us,” Zelenskyy said.
