Might ‘snapback’ sanctions set the stage for future military interventions against Iran? | DW News

The E3, which is comprised of Germany, France and Britain, are moving to reinstate UN-backed sanctions on Iran over what they say are broad violations of the 2015 nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action or JCPOA. The European allies triggered the so-called sanctions snapback mechanism, which was negotiated as part of the JCPOA deal. The mechanism launches a 30-day period which would likely end in the full reimposition of all pre-2015 UN sanctions on Iran. Iran has called the move illegal and said it would be met with an appropriate response.
