“Over the years, Japan has broken its commitment for the pacifist constitution and its exclusive defense commitment. It has triggered wide attention and concerns about whether Japan is going further down the evil path of re-arming itself and repeating the wrongdoings of militarism. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war. At this critical point, the Japanese side should deeply learn lessons from history and act and speak prudently in the field of military and security.”

STORYLINE:
The Chinese Defense Ministry on Thursday slammed the Philippines, Australia and Canada for holding drills off a disputed South China Sea shoal, which China claims as its territory.
The three countries deployed three warships and aircrafts on Wednesday for drills against simulated aerial threats.
The military of the Philippines said the naval drills, east of the Scarborough Shoal, were concluded safely, and it did not mention any encounter with the Chinese coast guard, navy or suspected militia ships which have closely guarded the uninhabited fishing atoll off the northwestern Philippines for years.
On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Chinese Defense Ministry criticized the Philippines for “co-opting influences from outside powers to make waves".
“Facts have proven, time and again, that The Philippines is the breaker of peace, the troublemaker in the South China Sea,” Zhang Xiaoguang said.
China and The Philippines both claim Scarborough and other islands, islets and reefs in the South China Sea as their territory.
The United States has questioned China’s claim to virtually the entire sea passage.
“Some external countries have instigated and supported The Philippines – endorsing reckless behavior and harming the interest of regional countries,” Zhang told reporters.
Zhang warned that Japan was "going further down the evil path of re-arming itself and repeating the wrongdoings of militarism.”
Japan’s Kyodo news reported the Japanese military and the US armed forces will conduct exercises to deploy Typhoon medium-range missile systems at the US Marine Corps Base Iwakuni, during the Resolute Dragon maneuvers from September 11 to 25.
Zhang accused Japan of violating the spirit of its pacifist constitution, saying the move had triggered “attention and concern”.
China, is preparing to stage a large-scale military parade next week to mark the anniversary of Japan’s World War II surrender.
