"Today, we’re talking about hundreds of thousands of missing persons in Syria. There may not be a specific number so far, but unfortunately that number keeps increasing because reporting is increasing. Many families did not report their missing loved ones due to political or security reasons. Now, more families are coming forward, so the numbers are rising. And as a result, the challenges are growing.”

"We’re talking about documents found in many prisons and various courts across Syria. What has become of this issue? They want transitional justice, and then they want full justice. They want to hear official statements, official steps from the government."

STORYLINE:
The families of missing people in Syria are still trying to keep their cause alive, seeking answers about the fate of their loved ones.

Some family members have held demonstrations in the country’s capital Damascus and elsewhere, calling for accountability and for more effort in ongoing searches.

Advocacy group The Syrian Campaign says some 112,000 are still missing to this day.
