1. Various of smoke rising after Israeli airstrike east of Deir al-Balah
STORYLINE:
A large smoke plume was visible from a distance east of the central city of Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip Thursday after early Israeli strikes.
It was not immediately clear what Israel struck or the immediate casualty count.
Meanwhile, aid groups warn that an expanded Israeli military offensive could worsen the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory, where most of the over 2 million residents have been displaced.
Neighborhoods lie in ruins and a famine has been declared in Gaza City.
There’s also been mounting international outrage over this week’s double Israeli strike on a southern Gaza hospital that killed journalists, emergency responders and others.
