3. SOUNDBITE (French) Marine Le Pen, Head of National Rally:
"We are in total disagreement with the solutions presented by Mr. (Prime Minister François) Bayrou. Either because they are anecdotal or very dangerous. Now, if this leads to the question on whether we have confidence in the government, obviously, to us, the answer is simple: we have no confidence."

4. SOUNDBITE (French) Marine Le Pen, Head of National Rally:
"Jordan and myself, we both call for a very quick dissolution. The truth is, we need for a new majority, that will emerge after new elections, to put together a budget so that our country has a budget! That’s the only democratic solution."

5. SOUNDBITE (French) Marine Le Pen, Head of National Rally:
"The only way that Prime Minister could survive much longer would involve breaking away from ‘Macron-ism’. Let’s face it, it’s (French President) Emmanuel Macron’s policies that are profoundly toxic and a certain number of ministers have implemented them – ministers from the right, from the left and from the center. To us, it makes no difference, it’s not personal. We’re not annoyed with anyone in particular but it’s a fact that none of the prime ministers had the courage to break away from ‘Macron-ism’."

6. SOUNDBITE (French) Marine Le Pen, Head of National Rally:
"I don’t think this was the goal of the meeting. I wasn’t under the impression that François Bayrou wanted to open negotiations. I think he’s made up his mind. We told him what we wanted to tell him. He defended himself and his government. I don’t think he’s changed his mind and neither have we."

STORYLINE:
French far-right leaders called for a snap election on Tuesday following their meeting with Prime Minister François Bayrou, who faces a vote of no confidence.

As Bayrou scrambles to save his post, he is holding talks this week with leaders across the spectrum — including far-right leader Marine Le Pen — ahead of a parliamentary confidence vote on his government’s plan to cut public spending.

Opposition parties have already vowed to reject the austerity budget, and Bayrou is widely expected to lose the Sept. 8 confidence vote, pushing France to the brink of another political crisis.

Speaking after the meeting with the prime minister, Le Pen said her party has no confidence in Bayrou and dissolution along with a subsequent new election is "the only democratic solution" to resolve the political crisis.

If Bayrou is defeated, he will step down, leaving President Emmanuel Macron in a highly uncomfortable position — forced either to find a consensus prime minister, a difficult task in a deeply divided France, or to dissolve the National Assembly once again.
