"As for Ukraine’s membership of the EU, we were never against it. As for NATO, it’s another issue. It’s about ensuring the security of the Russian Federation not only now and in the mid-term perspective, but also in the long-term perspective. Our position is known; we consider it unacceptable for us."

"Naturally, it’s Ukraine’s decision how to ensure its security. But its security, as it’s stated in the fundamental documents, which also include the security in Europe, can’t be ensured at the expense of the security of other countries, and at the expense of Russia’s security in particular. There are options to ensure the security of Ukraine in case of the end of the conflict. It was also discussed in Anchorage. I think there is a possibility to find a consensus here."

"We can also cooperate with American partners at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. We discussed these issues indirectly. It’s the same for the Ukrainian side. In case of favorable circumstances, we discussed it with American colleagues, the three of us can work together at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant."

"We have tolerated for a long time when the Ukrainian forces were making constant strikes on our energy facilities, but then we stared striking back. We are striking back seriously, it’s true. In response, the Ukrainian side is trying to cause damage to us but it also causes damage to our partners."

STORYLINE:
Russian President Vladimir Putin said it’s possible to find consensus on security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the conflict.

Putin said he discussed the security guarantees for Ukraine with U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to Alaska earlier in August.

Putin spoke during a meeting with Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico, on the sidelines of a visit to Beijing where both leaders will attend China’s massive military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The Russian leader once again ruled out Ukraine’s aspiration to join NATO but said he was not against EU membership for Ukraine.

Putin also said he discussed with Trump a possible joint operation of the Europe’s largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia controlled by Russian forces.

He said Ukraine, Russia and the U.S. could work together at the plant "in case of favorable circumstances".
