STORYLINE:
Chinese President Xi Jinping held meetings with several world leaders on Tuesday during their visits to Beijing ahead of a massive military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Xi welcomed Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and thanked Iran for the support toward China in hosting of the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit and the upcoming parade.
"China is willing to work with Iran to continue friendship, deepen mutual trust, expand exchanges, and strengthen cooperation," Xi told Pezeshkian.
The Chinese leader also met with his Turkmenistan counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow.
China’s missiles, fighter jets and other military hardware — some on public view for the first time — will be displayed in the major parade on Wednesday.
It’s the first major military parade in China since 2019 on the 70th anniversary of the founding of communist China.
