STORYLINE:
The NFL season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo on Friday is drawing interest from more than just football fans; Taylor Swift admirers will also be there.
Hoping to catch even a brief glimpse of her idol, Maria Eduarda Sonnesso quickly bought a ticket upon learning that Taylor Swift’s fiancé, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs would be playing.
"I felt like I was buying a ticket to a Taylor Swift concert," said Sonnesso, who runs a Taylor Swift Brasil fan page with over half a million followers.
Neither the NFL nor Corinthians, the soccer club that owns the stadium, have confirmed whether the pop superstar will attend.
Still, several Brazilian media outlets have reported that local broadcasters are preparing for the possibility of her appearance, and for fans like Sonnesso, that’s more than enough.
"Since the engagement announcement, we’ve been on high alert, because we realized she might come," she said.
And the hope isn’t unfounded, Swift has been a regular presence at Chiefs games over the past two seasons.
She plans to attend the game with her boyfriend, who is actually a fan of the sport.
"One eye will be on the game, and the other on the screen, just in case she shows up," she said.
