1. SOUNDBITE (English) Samya Kullab, The Associated Press:
"Russia attacked Ukraine with drones and missiles today in one of the largest aerial attacks on the country since the war began. Two people are dead, over 20 have been wounded. The attack left smoke rising from the roof of Ukraine’s cabinet of ministers building. Altogether, Russia launched over 800 drones, of which Ukraine managed to shoot down just over 700, but unfortunately there were hits. A mother and her infant child were killed in their home. Residential buildings were struck, such as the one behind me. There were strong words of condemnation from Ukrainian officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that such killings, when diplomacy could have started a long time ago, demonstrate a deliberate crime and a prolongation of the war. This attack happens after European officials have been pushing Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war, after 26 of Ukraine’s allies pledged to put boots on the ground as a reassurance force, when the fighting ends. Zelenskyy has said he is ready to meet Putin face to face to negotiate peace, and he is urging the US administration to issue punishing sanctions against Russia to bring Putin to that table."
