STORYLINE:
Pop culture and music collided Sunday night on the red carpet for MTV’s VMA’s. VMA used to stand for Video Music Awards, but now the show focuses on celebrating the artists who have cultural impact on the music industry and beyond.
Doja Cat and KATSEYE arrived and posed in front of the moonman backdrop at New York’s UBS Arena. Doja Cat created a stir when she took her lipstick out to reapply and then proceeded to eat it.
Other early arrivals included Journey Montana. Davis Burleson, Jazmyn Smith, Valentina Ferrer and Benee.
The ceremony was hosted by rapper and actor L.L. Cool J. Lady Gaga lead the night with 12 nominations while Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Rose, Sabrina Carpenter and The Weeknd were among other top contenders.
Mariah Carey was set to receive the 2025 Video Vanguard Award, Busta Rhymes the first ever MTV VMA Rock the Bells Visionary Award, and Ricky Martin was to be honored with the inaugural Latin Icon Award. Both Ryhmes and Martin also were expected to perform for the crowd.
Other performers includ Conan Gray, Tate McRae, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Post Malone, Alex Warren, J Balvin, Sabrina Carpenter and sombr.e
The 2025 MTV “VMAs” aired live Sunday on CBS, and was simulcast on MTV and streamed on Paramount+ in the U.S.
