BMW is showing off its electric future at the IAA Mobility show in Munich.
From long-range SUVs to surf-inspired Minis and self-balancing two wheelers, the carmaker is unveiling a new generation of battery-powered vehicles.
STORYLINE
The new BMW iX3.
It’s the first model the German car manufacturer is releasing in its Neue Klasse series.
It’s a fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle that can go from 0 to 60mph in 4.9 seconds.
But the big change is how far it can go – a huge battery and the latest driving technology means the car has a range of up to 805 kilometres (500 miles).
That positions the iX3 as ideal for long distance driving.
The cabin has a new look too.
It’s the first BMW to be fitted with Panoramic iDrive, a control and operating system.
The display stretches across the entire width of the dashboard and is visible to everyone in the car.
It’s a system that can customise the driving experience at the touch of a button.
The BMW iX3 will be available in Europe from spring 2026, in the US in summer 2026, and a model designed for the Chinese market will also hit the road in summer 2026.
The automaker is also unveiling an electric Mini – they’re calling it The Skeg.
It draws on materials and ideas from the world of surfing.
That includes fiberglass, neoprene, and stripped-back design.
The body is painted yellow and silver.
It features wide fenders, a roof spoiler, and an illuminated grille.
Semi-transparent fiberglass panels reduce the carβs weight by 15 percent.
It’s a collaboration with lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina.
"Already one in three Minis has an electric heart. And the trend continues to rise," says BMW’s Jochen Goller.
Finally, a vision of the future gildes onto the stage.
It’s BMW Motorrad’s Vision CE, a concept electric two-wheeler for city travel.
The Vision CE is fully electric and self-balancing.
It features a metal safety cage and seatbelt, removing the need for a helmet or protective gear.
BMW says it offers a connected, carefree riding experience with zero emissions.
The design takes inspiration from the BMW C1 scooter, introduced 25 years ago.
BMW says the future is electric, and it appears to be arriving in style.
IAA Mobility officially runs until 14 September.
