STORYLINE:
African leaders have proposed a shift in climate adaptation funding, urging investors not to view it as charity but as a strategic investment in the future.

Dozens of heads of state and government representatives met on Monday for the Africa Climate Summit in Ethiopia, where they called for the continent not to be treated as a victim but as an investment opportunity.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said it was β€œtime to replace climate aid with climate investment.”

African countries, with a population of more than one billion, have borne the brunt of climate catastrophes, including droughts and floods, that have left millions of people vulnerable.

African countries made ambitious plans to increase renewable energy during the last climate summit in 2023, but funding constraints have slowed down implementation.
