1. President Xi Jinping attended the BRICS Leaders’ virtual summit and delivered a speech. How does the Ministry of Foreign Affairs view the outcomes of this summit?
The BRICS leaders held a virtual summit to exchange views in depth on the current international economic and trade environment and the safeguarding of the multilateral system, reaching a broad consensus. This is of great significance for deepening BRICS partnerships and advancing the interests of the Global South, injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of greater BRICS cooperation.
President Xi Jinping delivered an important speech at the meeting, pointing out that the once-in-a-century changes are accelerating, and that BRICS countries, as the leading force of the Global South, must uphold the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, and adhere to three key principles: first, uphold multilateralism and defend international fairness and justice; second, uphold openness and win-win outcomes, and safeguard the international economic and trade order; third, uphold solidarity and cooperation, and build synergy for common development.
President Xi also provided a profound explanation of the core essence of the Global Governance Initiative, emphasizing that BRICS countries should adhere to the principles of joint consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, actively promote the democratization of international relations, and improve the global governance system through reform so as to better address the common challenges facing humanity.
As President Xi stated, so long as we shoulder our responsibilities and support one another, the BRICS vessel will surely withstand the tests of turbulent winds and waves, and continue to sail steadily toward a promising future.
China stands ready to work with all parties to implement the summit’s consensus, jointly advance BRICS cooperation to new heights, and contribute to promoting a more equal and orderly multipolar world and an inclusive and beneficial economic globalization.
