"My wife left, she received a text message, and she said that ‘I’m going to go get a pension for the grandmother.’ She left, and 20 minutes later, I heard a whistle and an explosion, I went out of the yard and saw a smoke mushroom rising somewhere from the center. I started calling her, but there was no connection, the phone wasn’t answering. Before that, she called Dima, and then she cut off. Dima went there on his bike, then a neighbor called me, he was also there, he said there was an attack in the center, 20 people died. I got in the car and drove there, and what was there was beyond words."

"This morning at around eleven o’clock there was an airstrike on the village of Yarova, a small village near Lyman. The strike was previously carried out by a guided air bomb with a universal planning and correction module. The strike fell on the central part of the village, where at that moment, local residents were receiving their pensions. That is, there were a lot of people and there was a large crowd, this strike took place right next to the Ukrainian Post delivery service vehicle. Police and rescuers immediately arrived at the scene and provided assistance. Many people died, at this moment the first information was that 21 civilians died."

"We worked everything out on the spot as quickly as possible, because the village was constantly suffering from attacks, and immediately after that we drove into the city with the White Angels crew (special police unit), because we received evacuation requests. The scene was terrible, the whole village was burning."

STORYLINE:
Ukrainian residents of a bombed village in the Donetsk region recounted on Tuesday the harrowing moments of the attack and sudden loss of loved ones.
A Russian glide bomb struck a village in eastern Ukraine as people stood in line in the open air to collect their monthly pension.
The blast killed at least 23 people and wounded 18 others, officials said.
The bomb hit the village of Yarova at around 11 a.m. local time, authorities said.
The village lies less than 10 kilometers (six miles) from the front line.
It was the latest Russian attack to kill civilians.
“It was beyond words,” he told The Associated Press.
