"I think it was an accident waiting to happen because we’ve seen over the last couple of months a pattern where Russia has been firing more and more drones and missiles at Ukraine every day. This week, a record of 810 drone attacks in a single night was reached. Last night, we had about 415 drones fired at Ukraine and 40 missiles. And as Russia keeps up this momentum of massive strikes, and also begins to go back to attacking more and more targets in western Ukraine, around the city of Lviv and very close to the Polish border. Obviously, it’s only going to be a matter of time before some of those Russian drones and missiles deliberately or accidentally land on NATO territory and potentially cause casualties in NATO countries. I mean, this is not new."

"Again, with so many Russian projectiles now potentially crossing the border, it’s only a matter of time before you have one of these missiles or drones landing on a supermarket in Estonia or Romania or landing on a residential building and potentially killing dozens and dozens of people, which obviously would provoke an even more serious incident than the one we witnessed yesterday evening."

"Since Donald Trump insisted that the Ukrainians via Europe have to purchase the weapons from the United states and they have to be produced fresh by American defense industry, rather than come from U.S. stocks. So, that clearly has sent a signal to Putin that he has now a window of opportunity to pursue his campaign in Ukraine before these new freshly manufactured American weapons arrive.

STORYLINE:
A security expert said Russia’s violation of Poland’s airspace with drones should be seen a sign for NATO to strengthen its Eastern defense.
Dr Jamie Shea, Professor of Strategy and Security at University of Exeter, told the Associated Press that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a "great risk taker" who has recently attempted to challenge NATO’s defenses.
"It’s only a matter of time before you have one of these missiles or drones landing on a supermarket in Estonia or Romania or landing on a residential building and potentially killing dozens and dozens of people," Shea warned.
He then added that such an escalation would trigger a much more "serious" response than the recent incident.
