“China has lodged stern protests and warnings with the Japanese side over the matter. China firmly opposes any Taiwan independence figures visiting countries that have diplomatic relations with China under any pretext. As the former leader of the Taiwan region, Tsai Ing-wen’s visit to Japan, regardless of the excuse or label, cannot change the essence of seeking independence by relying on foreign powers, and is absolutely unacceptable.”

“China welcomes the understanding reached between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency on resuming safeguards monitoring cooperation. This is a positive step toward easing tensions over the Iranian nuclear issue and rebuilding mutual trust among all parties.
At present, the situation surrounding the Iranian nuclear issue remains fragile. China calls on all parties to intensify diplomatic efforts, engage in constructive dialogue, avoid actions that could escalate the situation, and resume negotiations as soon as possible to reach a fair and lasting solution that accommodates the legitimate concerns of all sides.”

STORYLINE:
China on Wednesday said it has lodged a protest with Japan over former Taiwanese leader Tsai Ing-wen’s visit to Japan.

Tsai’s office confirmed the visit was private and “with no official schedule planned.”

Commenting on the visit at the daily news briefing in Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated China’s opposition to “any Taiwan independence figures visiting countries that have diplomatic relations with China under any pretext.”

“As the former leader of the Taiwan region, Tsai Ing-wen’s visit to Japan, regardless of the excuse or label, cannot change the essence of seeking independence by relying on foreign powers, and is absolutely unacceptable,” Lin insisted.

Lin also rejected President Donald Trump’s suggestion that the EU should impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on China and India in an effort to increase pressure on Russia to end the Ukraine war.

“We firmly oppose any attempt to make China a scapegoat and firmly oppose the imposition of so-called economic pressure on China,” Lin said.

At the briefing, Lin said the Chinese Embassy in the U.S. is “providing necessary assistance” to the Chinese nationals arrested during a massive immigration raid at a Hyundai plant in Georgia last week.

The operation was the latest in a long line of workplace raids conducted as part of the Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda.
