Thousands of Palestinians have been fleeing Gaza City as Israel steps up its bombardments in the area.
Israeli strikes destroyed a number of buildings in the city on Monday, and Gaza officials say dozens of people were killed. Israel says the offensive is part of a plan to defeat Hamas for good. The US has underlined its support for Israel, after Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks with Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem.
