“The tent does not protect from splinters or stones, our tent was totally torn. We don’t have good blankets or good bedding, and winter is coming, what do we do for our children? We don’t even have a proper tent to shelter us.”

"They struck Tayba 2 Tower. We were sheltering in tents under that tower, and they struck the tower after we left and the tower fell on our tents. The tents are gone, and nothing is left of it not even clothes and belongings. We only left with a basil plant only.”

STORYLINE:
Palestinians forced from Gaza City on Wednesday faced yet another displacement, struggling to transport their belongings and find new places to shelter with only limited means.
Israel’s military on Tuesday ordered Gaza City residents to evacuate ahead of a planned offensive to seize what it describes as Hamas’ last stronghold, even as hundreds of thousands remain in famine conditions and many refuse to leave due to the lack of shelter in the south and the cost of moving.
Dozens of vehicles, motorbikes, and donkey carts loaded with belongings lined Gaza City’s coastal road, leaving the city.
Amal Sobh, displaced from Beit Lahia with 30 relatives — including 13 orphans — said the TukTuk, a three-wheel vehicle, carrying their belongings broke down and they had no fuel, leaving the family stranded on the streets since early Wednesday morning.
After one of her boys came down with a fever, the only food or medicine they were able to get was bread that a passerby gave to them.
"I have 13 orphans, the one who is in my lap, his temperature is high like fire, I don’t have money to buy medicine for him," she told the AP.
Many attempting to evacuate are doing so with the minimal belongings they have left, having lost so much of what they owned.
“Our tent was totally torn, we don’t have good blankets or good beddings, and winter is coming, what do we do for our children? We don’t even have a proper tent to shelter us,” said Sobh, whose children have been killed and husband arrested during the war.
Many are exhausted from moving multiple times and unsure if traveling south will be safer.
