Gaza’s civil defense agency says at least 62 people were killed by Israeli forces on Wednesday, with at least 40 dead in Gaza City. Israel has dramatically intensified its offensive in the north of the enclave, with ground forces going in to seize the biggest urban center in the Palestinian territory. The army claims that thousands of Hamas fighters are still there, but hundreds of thousands of civilians also remain. Those who fled describe a relentless bombardment – and a city in ruins.
