"There is a military road that was carved out by the army and settlers and it separates the village of Deir Jarir from the village of Silwad. Settlers often use this road to carry out attacks against the residents of our village. In response, several young men attempted to block this road. Last Thursday, a group of youths gathered there, where they were deliberately targeted and shot at in cold blood and this martyr was left to bleed before being taken to the hospital, and after several days, he passed away as a martyr. May he rest in peace."

STORYLINE:
Hundreds of Palestinians gathered on Sunday to mourn on a 21-year-old man who was seriously injured in a settler attack earlier this week and died on Saturday, according to the Ramallah’s health ministry.
According to Fathi Hamdan, the head of the Deir Jarir Village Council in the occupied West Bank, several young men attempted to block a road on Thursday that was carved out by the Israeli army and settlers.
"Settlers often use this road to carry out attacks against the residents of our village," explained Hamdan.
He said several young Palestinian men attempted to block the road in response.
"They were deliberately targeted and shot at in cold blood and this martyr (21-year-old Mohammad Alawi) was left to bleed before being taken to the hospital, and after several days, he passed away as a martyr," he added.
Israel captured the West Bank, along with Gaza and east Jerusalem, in the 1967 Mideast war. The Palestinians want all three territories for a future state and – along with most of the international community – view settlements as illegal and an obstacle to peace.
During the war in Gaza, Israel has killed hundreds of Palestinians in the West Bank during wide-scale military operations, and there has also been a rise in settler attacks on Palestinians. There also has been a surge in Palestinian attacks on Israelis.
