"When I was young, this lake was beautiful. It had only rainwater. It did not have sewage water. We used it as drinking water. Later the lake dried up. Now they let in water from sewage treatment plants and it is polluted. Now this weed grew and hence we decided to clean it."

"In the 1970’s, there were over 250 lakes in the city, and now we are at the official number of 183. The water bodies in Bengaluru used to be seasonal. So they would dry up in summers then when it rains they used to capture flood water. And now whenever the lake kind of dries up and stays dry And now whenever the lake kind of dries up and stays dry for a very long time, it tends to change its nature. So maybe earlier farmers would move into the lake bed and like start agriculture. And now it’s almost like somebody dumps something into it and the lake gets filled up and then like it automatically gets notified as a residential land, and then things start building and once things are built on it you cannot do much about it."

"Lakes can act as the climate mitigation units in the city because we have around 3% of the area is under lakes. And they can act as cooling zones when it’s extreme heat events, and they can act as flood buffers when there is extreme rainfall events."
