STORYLINE:
Munich’s Theresienwiese is once again the stage for Oktoberfest, the world’s largest folk festival.
Visitors streamed into the grounds from 9 a.m., eager to secure seats in the tents ahead of the official keg tapping at noon.
Beer prices begin at 14.50 euros ($17) per liter, marking a slight increase from last year, when festivalgoers consumed a total of seven million liters.
Ahead of the keg tapping, brewers and festival hosts paraded from Sendlinger Tor to the Theresienwiese.
Around a thousand participants took part in the procession, accompanied by elaborately decorated horse-drawn carriages.
In the mild autumn weather, hundreds of thousands of visitors came to witness the start of Oktoberfest.
