STORYLINE:
Police in the Manila on Sunday arrested scores of people suspected of attacking officers in violent clashes near the president palace.
The melee outside the palace in the Philippine capital involved about 100 people and left around 70 officers injured.
Police used tear gas to disperse the rioters, who they said also vandalized property.
It was not immediately known if President Marcos Jr. was in the Malacanang palace during the chaos.
It also remained unclear if the detained suspects had participated in peaceful protests that happened elsewhere in the capital.
Over 33,000 people rallied over a scandal involving lawmakers and officials accused of taking kickbacks from flood-control projects.
