" This orchard was under seven feet of water, higher than my height. The orchards have been damaged. Normally, this could yield 5,000 boxes of apples, but now, looking at what’s left on the trees, we can harvest a maximum of 600 boxes. I had invested nearly USD 5,500 in maintaining the orchards this season, and it’s all gone. We are now picking the fallen apples, washing them, and sending them to the markets."

" As of today we can say that about 150 to 200 crores ( $18.07 million to $24.10 million USD ) have been lost, are the damages suffered. That is direct damages of the apple. Then if you add up to that trucks, their hires, and all that income that is incurring also, the trucks will take time as they are stranded on the roads for eight to ten days or twelve days. So these are huge loss, the growers have suffered, the fruit dealers have suffered."

"It is the start of the harvest season, and what we are witnessing in Kashmir is worsening weather conditions. We are experiencing cloudbursts, heavy rainfall, and floods, due to which the early batch of apples has been damaged. The box of apples we purchased for 200 rupees  ($2.40 ) now doesn’t even sell for 50 rupees ($0.60 ). We also have to pay much higher transport costs than what we are earning in the markets; it feels as if we are giving the apples away for free. It’s a huge loss for us"
