4. SOUNDBITE (Russian) Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin:
Journalist: “What reaction did (Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw) Sikorski’s threats provoke in the Kremlin?”
Peskov: “You know, we take a very responsible position. You know that our military has declared that our aircraft observe international rules during all their flights and do not violate them in any way. Claims of border violations by our aircraft have never been backed by reliable data or convincing arguments. Again, in the absence of such arguments, we treat these statements accordingly.”
STORYLINE:
A Kremlin spokesman said Tuesday that Russian aircraft "do not violate" international law.

Disputing claims made by the Polish Foreign Minister that Russian aircraft had entered NATO airspace, Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that "claims of border violations by our aircraft have never been backed by reliable data or convincing arguments."

"Our military has declared that our aircraft observe international rules during all their flights and do not violate them in any way," he added.

Multiple Russian drones crossed into Poland on Sept. 10 in what European officials described as a deliberate provocation.

At the time, a NATO spokesman said it was the first time the alliance confronted a potential threat in its airspace.

Then, on Sept. 19, three Russian fighter aircraft entered Estonian airspace without permission, staying there for 12 minutes.

Responding to a Danish police statement that did not rule out Russian involvement in drones flying over Copenhagen Airport on Monday, Peskov called the allegations "unfounded".

"A party that takes a serious and responsible position mustn’t make such unfounded accusations again and again," he warned.

A skilled drone pilot flew two to three large unidentified drones over the airport on Monday night, shutting down the airspace for hours.

Authorities couldn’t rule out the possibility of the drones being part of a Russian hybrid attack.
