STORYLINE:
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow "remains open for peace talks" in a call with reporters on Thursday.
Peskov was responding to a question about U.S. Vice President JD Vance’s comments made in North Carolina Thursday that Trump is getting "impatient" with Putin, and that it would be "very, very bad" for Russia if it fails to negotiate in good faith.
"For now, we proceed from the assumption that Washington retains political will, President Trump retains political will to continue efforts to reach a peaceful settlement in Ukraine," said Peskov.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he believed Ukraine could win back all territory lost to Russia, a dramatic shift from the U.S. leader’s repeated calls for Kyiv to make concessions to end the war.
Trump posted on social media soon after meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly gathering of world leaders.
