STORYLINE:
South Korea’s finance workers staged a general strike on Friday, with thousands of union members gathering in Seoul to demand higher wages and shorter working hours.
During the rally, members of the Korea Financial Industry Union—comprising primarily employees from major commercial banks—called for the implementation of a 4.5-day workweek and a 3.9% wage increase.
Friday’s demonstration marked the union’s first general strike rally in three years, since September 2022.
Despite the strike, banking operations saw little disruption, as participation among union workers was lower than expected.
