“The zone where the European hospital is located has to be evacuated. Therefore, an evacuation started for patients inside the intensive care unit and the critical cases followed by other units and on the second day after we were told to evacuate, we started evacuating the emergency unit as the last ward to be officially out of service. All patients and equipment were moved out, there are no equipment here now and we can not offer any service to any patient, you can now see that there are no beds, equipment, gear or medical staff, I am the last doctor here and I’ll probably leave in an hour to look for a new shelter for myself.”

“We received an evacuation order last night for some areas that includes the European Hospital which is located in the evacuation zone, since yesterday we are evacuating medical equipment and valuable gear as there are the only ones in the Gaza Strip like abdominal endoscopy equipment, X rays and ultrasound as well as catheters and work is undergoing in order to move all the remaining machines.”

STORYLINE:
Patients continued to be evacuated from a hospital in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis on Tuesday, after an overnight strike hit a home nearby and killed 9 people inside the zone that Israel said should be evacuated.
Monday’s evacuation order covered the eastern half of Khan Younis, where the European Hospital is located, and a large swath of the Gaza Strip’s southeast corner.
On Tuesday, the military said the facility itself was not included, but its director said most patients and medics had already been relocated.
The order caused panic among displaced people in the area, as well as patients and doctors that started the evacuation immediately.
Patients were seen outstretched on hospital beds outside waiting for their evacuation.
The head of the emergency unit at the hospital, Abdallah Hamdan, said that patients were being evacuated and equipment was being moved to Nasser Hospital.
The European Hospital was no longer functional, Hamdan said.
Sam Rose, the director of planning at the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA, said Tuesday that the agency believes some 250,000 people are in the evacuation zone — over 10% of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million — including many who have fled earlier fighting.
He said another 50,000 people living just outside the zone may also choose to leave because of their proximity to the fighting.
