And so it is necessary to put an end to this feeling of impunity, through sanctions, and through collaboration with international justice."

STORYLINE:
Around 100 demonstrators gathered on Tuesday near the European Council building in Brussels where EU foreign ministers were meeting to urge them to put an end to an EU-Israeli agreement amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
Demonstrators, with banners and Palestinian flags, turned out to pressure ministers with a review of the EU-Israel Association Agreement on the agenda.
Several EU countries accuse Israel to be in breach of its human rights obligations under Article 2 of the EU-Israel Association Agreement and outrage over Israel’s actions in Gaza has grown in Europe as images of suffering Palestinians have driven protests in London, Berlin, Brussels, Madrid and Amsterdam.
"Israel is laughing at the demands from both Europe and from the United States. They know that there is no follow-up, that sanctions are never imposed," said Alexis Deswaef, vice-president of the International Federation for Human Rights at the protest.
"Europe has a unique chance: to pull itself together, to take sanctions, to immediately suspend the Association Agreement and to declare an arms embargo," he continued.
Spain, which has canceled arms deals with Israel and called for an arms embargo, is calling for the agreement to be suspended, together with Ireland.
But such a suspension would require a unanimous decision, which is likely impossible to obtain from countries like Austria, Germany and Hungary that tend to back Israel.
